Make your project folder
By the endYou have a folder named after your app inside Developer in your home folder, your plan file is in it, and Claude has it open in the Code tab.
Your app will live in one project folder. Everything Claude makes goes in there, and nowhere else. This step makes the folder in the right place, moves your plan file into it, and opens it in the Code tab.
Where it goes, and why
The folder goes in a folder named Developer inside your home folder. Not on the Desktop, and not in Documents. Here is why:
- Many Macs keep the Desktop and Documents folders in iCloud Drive, so they sync to Apple's servers. Building tools make thousands of small files, and the syncing fights with them. Apple describes the setting on Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive.
- A temporary folder is worse. The Mac empties those on its own, often at restart. Weeks of work can vanish that way.
The Developer folder is the Mac's usual home for building. The Mac even gives it a hammer icon.
Make the folders
- Click the Finder icon at the left end of the Dock.
- Hold Shift and Command and press H. The window jumps to your home folder. Its name is your user name, with a house icon.
- Control-click an empty spot in the main area and click New Folder.
- Type
Developerand press Return. After a moment the folder shows a hammer on it. - Double-click Developer to go inside.
- Control-click an empty spot, click New Folder, type your working name with no spaces, for example
Binder, and press Return.
The practice folder named Binder on your Desktop from Part 1 was only for practice. Drag it to the Trash now, so there is one Binder folder on your Mac. Keep anything in it you still want first.
Put your plan file in
Copy and paste works for files too, the same keys as for words (the step "Copy, paste and undo" in Part 1).
- In the Finder sidebar, click Documents.
- Click
binder-plan.txt(with your app's name instead) once, so it is highlighted. - Press Command + C.
- Press Shift + Command + H, double-click Developer, then double-click Binder. The window is empty.
- Press Command + V. A copy of the plan file appears.
Then do the same with your sketches folder from Part 3, if you made one: click it in Documents, press Command + C, go back into Binder, and press Command + V. Claude can now open your sketches when it builds each screen.
The originals stay in Documents. They can stay or go; from now on Claude uses the copies in the project folder.
Open it in the Code tab
- Go back to the Claude app, in the Code tab.
- Under the message box, click the folder control, next to the first control.
- Click Open folder…. A window for choosing a folder opens.
- Hold Shift and Command and press H to jump to your home folder, double-click Developer, then click Binder once.
- Click Open. The folder name now shows in the control.
Send Claude a first message to prove it can see the folder:
Claude reads the folder and names your plan file. It may ask to allow something first; click yes. Step 4 explains those questions properly.
