When Claude is wrong or stuck
By the endYou can handle an answer that is wrong, unsure, or going in circles.
Claude will be wrong sometimes. Not often, but it happens, and it usually happens in a confident voice. An answer that sounds sure is not the same as an answer that is right. This step gives you four tools, and the habit of checking.
Confident mistakes
Claude can state a wrong fact, invent a button that doesn't exist, or say "done" when the change didn't work. It isn't lying. It is guessing when it should be asking. Your job is to notice. Signs to watch for:
- A step mentions a menu or button you can't find.
- The answer is very general when you asked something specific.
- Two answers contradict each other.
- It says something "always" or "never" works.
Tool 1: check it yourself
For anything that matters, test it. If Claude says "tap the button and the label disappears", tap the button. For facts about prices or rules, look at the official page. If Claude explains a word, ask for an example and see if the example makes sense.
Tool 2: ask how sure it is
Claude is honest when asked directly. The "guessing" list is where the trouble hides.
Tool 3: ask it to double-check
Tool 4: start a fresh chat
Long chats drift. If Claude keeps repeating a fix that doesn't work, or you have gone back and forth three times, the chat is going in circles. Don't push on. First, get a summary:
Copy the summary and click New chat. Paste it, and add: "Please suggest a different approach." A fresh chat often solves in one message what the old one couldn't in ten.
Be direct
You don't have to be polite about mistakes. "That's wrong, the button isn't there" is a fine message. Claude has no feelings to hurt, and clear words get clear fixes.
What about changes to the app?
From Part 5, Claude will be changing your app's files. A wrong change can be undone. Part 5 teaches backups and the undo step, so nothing Claude does later is permanent unless you want it to be.
