How to use this guide

By the endYou can read a step page, use its boxes, and mark it done.

Every page in this guide is one step, built the same way. Once you know the parts, you can move through them without thinking about the page itself.

The top of a step

Each step starts with a title, how long it takes, and a goal. The goal is one sentence that starts with "You can" or "You have". If the goal is already true for you, skim the step and mark it done.

Numbered actions

When there is something to do, it comes as a numbered list. One action per line, in order. Each line says where to look, what it looks like, and what happens next.

  • Words in bold are the exact words of a button, menu or label on your screen. Look for them.
  • Words in this style are something to type exactly as shown.
  • Key shapes like Command + C on a Mac, or Ctrl + C on a Windows PC, are keys to press: hold the first, tap the second, let go of both.

Do the lines in order and do not skip ahead. If a line does not match your screen, stop there and read "Screen looks different" below.

The boxes

Boxes carry special kinds of information. Here is each one, with an example.

A box like that holds exact words to send to Claude. It has a Copy button. Click the button, go to Claude, paste, and send. You may change the words. They are a starting point, not a script.

Dictionary words

Some words have a dotted underline, like app. Click or tap one to see what it means in plain words. The whole list is on the dictionary page in the menu. You do not need to memorize any of them.

Mark as done

At the bottom of every step is a Mark as done button. Click it when the "how you know it worked" box is true. The guide remembers your progress, so you can close it and come back tomorrow to the same spot.

Screen looks different? Show Claude

Computers, phones and websites change their looks a little every year. So each step also has a box at the bottom named "Screen looks different? Show Claude". From Part 2 on, when a step does not match what you see, take a screenshot (Part 1 teaches that), give Claude the screenshot and the step's words, and ask what to click. Claude can see your actual screen. This page cannot.

Pictures

Some steps include a picture of the screen. Pictures help, but every step works from the words alone. Trust the words if a picture looks slightly different from your screen.

The four questions at the start

Before step 1, the guide asks four short questions. Together they decide which steps you see.

  1. Your app is for: iPhone, Android, or both. Parts of a step that differ by phone show a small label, and readers who picked both see both.
  2. Your computer: Mac or Windows PC. Keys, folders and screens then match yours.
  3. Have you used a computer before? Answer No, show me the basics and Part 1 teaches your computer from the power button. Answer Yes, skip the computer basics and those steps are hidden, except three worth doing anyway: screenshots, strong passwords and updates.
  4. Do you have the Claude app on your computer, with a paid plan? Answer No, help me set it up and Part 2 walks you through it. Answer Yes, skip to building and Part 2 is hidden, except the step about what never to type into Claude. Everyone reads that one.

Pick once; the guide remembers. The phone and computer choices also sit at the top of every step that differs by phone or computer. To change any answer, open the All steps page from the top of any page: the questions are there, and changing one brings the hidden steps back. If a step seems to be missing, check your answers first.

Free and paid parts

The first parts are free. The later parts, from Part 6 (building your app) onward, belong to the paid guide. The contents page lists what is in each part.
